Periwinkles
are mollusks that live among algas, which are their food. They live adhered
to the rocks, in the coastal regions. They are bluish black or dun, with
a lighter spiral ribbon and measure about 3 or 6 mm. These mollusks are
very resistant and can be out of the water for a long time. In Galicia
they are known as `caramuxos´.
