| HOW DISTINGUISH THE GALICIAN COCKLES? | ||||
|
The cockle is a mollusk formed by equal valves that look like a heart.
It is light yellow or dark white and measures 40-45 mm. It resists extreme environmental conditions and lives in the mouths of the rivers, in areas with thin sand at 10 m deep. It has a great trade interest because it breeds in plenty, grows quickly and survives to unfavourable conditions. |

| CHARACTERISTICS | ||||
|
The Galician cockle is marketed fresh and under different appearances
such as canned and frozen. If you want to know whether the cockle is from
Galicia you have to see the labels, where it is obligatory to state their
origin. The fresh cockle used to be Galician, although there are others from Portugal that arrive to our markets. The main market of cockles is in Noia. |
